一言か二言のJokeと迷言のようなものが中心です。活字は大きいです。そして、その下にほぼ同じ大きさの日本語訳がついていて、それが最初から最後まで続く、という構成です。英語のJokesの定義は広いので、これはこれでその範囲には入っています。

ただ、ストーリーものが少ないので、そのようなものを期待される方にはお勧めはしません。あと、この構成だと日本語訳がどうしても目に入るので、英語中心に読みたいという方には必ずしも親切な構成ではないように思います。

笑いはどうしても言葉やニュアンスに依存する部分があるので、英語のJokesは英語で楽しむのが基本だと思います。ただし、どうしてもある程度の英語力が必要になりますから、最初はこのような日本語併記のものが良いと思います。また、ストーリーになっているjokesで日本語訳併記の本となると、
"アメリカン・ジョークに習え! (アルファポリス文庫) (文庫) "
"アメリカン・ジョークに習え! 2 (2) (アルファポリス文庫) (文庫) "
がお勧めです。文庫サイズで値段も良心的です。適度にエッチなのも入っています。

また、いきなり洋書というのは敷居が高いと思われる方には、洋書ではあるけれども子供向けのものから読み始めてみてはいかがでしょういか。たとえば、
"500 Hilarious Jokes for Kids (Signet) "は、値段も安く、内容も平易なものが多く、短いのも、適度にストーリーになったものも混じっていて、比較的洋書の初心者向きだと思います。

本書のように、英語の一言迷言・名言集みたいのを求めるのであれば、
"Phillips' Book of Great Thoughts Funny Sayings: A Stupendous Collection of Quotes, Quips, Epigrams, Witticisms, and Humorous Comments. for Personal"
がいいです。かなりぶ厚いくて、お買い得です。

また、大人のJokesとなると、いち押しは、
"The New York City Cab Driver's Joke Book "
です。長く売れ続けていて、続編もあります。ただし、Dirty Jokesの比率が高いです。

アメリカはJokesの国です。本当にアメリカ人はJokesが好きです。ちょっと検索してみればわかると思いますが、本もたくさんあるし、WebサイトやMailing Listでもたくさんあります。Jokesは読みきりの話が普通で長さも短く、TOEIC学習などでは学べない自然な英語を楽しみながら学ぶという点で優れています。本書を皮切りに、いろいろ探してみてはいかがでしょうか。

「毒にも薬にもならない」英語ジョーク本かな？　と思いつつ、表紙のイラストの馬鹿っぽさに目が留まり書店で手にしたら、どっこい！　あまりに「劇薬」すぎて、頭がガツンとやられて、おもわず購入。

　英語テキストとしてもそれなりに活用可能かもしれませんが、ジョークの内容を読む込むだけで、一読の価値アリです。まさに、目からウロコ。久々に笑わせていただきました。

　それにしても、編訳者・里中氏って、かなり穿った「女性観」「人生観」の持ち主ですねえ〈文春文庫の『鬼平犯科帳の人生論』の著者。これも目からウロコの人生教訓集ですが）。

　女性になにか恨みでもあるのでしょか？

A:What's the difference between BEAUTIFULL and UGly？
B:Eight beers
A:美人とブスの違いは？
B：ビール８本
　って、この意味わかります？

　個人的には、「女のもっとも冷酷な復讐は、男に忠実でありつづけることだ」と「お金で買えないものがひとつある。貧乏である」というジョーク（というか格言？）がお気に入り。

　ためしに、知り合いのネイティヴ（英語教師）に読ませたら、終始、爆笑でした。「ネイティヴ・スピーカーも思わず吹き出す」というタイトルに「偽りなし！」。人によっては、怒り出す人もきっといると思います。
　でも、私には久々のヒット本でした。

入試にも資格試験にも関係ないけれど、英語を長い友にしている人なら本棚に１冊あってもいい本です。実際に自分（女性）が使う機会はあまりないと思いますが、くすっと笑えつかれた頭を休めてくれる面白いジョークが満載です。個人的に気に入ったのはSpeeches should be like women's skirts. Long enough to covere the sebject and short enough to stimulate interest.です。
