父がシャーマン、母がヒーラー、の家庭に育ち、それに反発するかのように外科医となった作者は交通事故による臨死体験を経てから、自己探求を始めるようになった。
この本ではいかに自由にいかに自分らしくいかに他と調和して生きてゆくのか、とてもわかりやすく紹介している。「人生があなたから何かを奪い去ったとしてもなすがままにさせておけばよい。あなたが過去を明け渡し、流し去った時、あなたは本当に現在に生きることができるのである。」
何かが心の琴線をふれるかもしれません。

薄い本だが真理に触れたとてつもなく深い本である。

この本は夢と鏡がキーワードだろう。

映画マトリックスの仮想現実の世界はこの本をよく表現していて、
現実は全て夢であり、人間は寝ても起きてもいつも夢を見ている。
由縁、仏教で悟った人を「ブッダ（目覚めた人）」と呼ぶのだ。

訳者解説にもある通り、仏教思想にとても近いので、
日本人にもなじみやすいと言えるだろう。

四つの約束のうち2、3、4に関しては、
エックハルト・トールのパワー・オブ・ナウに共通していて、
思考（過去や未来への執着）を捨てて今に生きることを指す。

本著はまさに悟りの実践本的位置づけの本だと言えよう。

狭いパーソナルスペースの中に住み、他人との感情の摩擦を極端に恐れて生きる日本人。そんな私たちにこそ必読の書。

○他人と自分は違う夢の中に住んでいる。

○たとえ面と向かって他人に批評されても、個人的に受け取る必要はない。
なぜならそれは、その人の持つ内面の毒や問題点を単に露呈しているだけであり、自分とは何の関係もない事なのだから。。

など、今を生きる上での知恵を与えてくれる。

「知識がなければ、我々は感情の奴隷となり、パターンにはまり込む」という言葉は、本書の中の言葉ではないが、まさにこの言葉を実践法を教えてくれる良書。
