本書は、英国ナショナル・トラスト運動を仲間とたちあげ、
「アーツ・アンド・クラフト運動（方式）」を精力的に啓蒙した、
英国の詩人で、社会主義運動家、ウイリアム・モリスの足跡を
大阪芸術大学の斎藤さんが、現地を旅行した紀行エッセイです。

文章だけでは、なかなか、現地の雰囲気も地理も読者に
はなかなか伝わらないのですが、本書の画期的なところは、
この価格ながら、なんと！３０分にわたる、
DVDが付録についていることです。
しかも、このDVDは、本書のために、大阪芸術大学の先生
方がわざわざ制作したという、涙ものの付録です。
このDVDはよくできています（ちょっと字幕が読みづらいけど）。

モリスや、その時代背景に詳しいわけではないのですが、
そんな私でも、本書をひもとく前に、DVDを先に鑑賞し、大まかな
知識をつけてから本書を読みましたので、現地や
思想が、大変イメージしやすかったです。

行ったことのない人には、DVDでそのイメージを。
行ったことがある方には、「ああ、あそこねえ。よかったね」
という、よき旅行の思い出がよみがえってきます。
英国の歴史や時代背景の教養も身に付きます。

喧噪な毎日、日常からしばし逃避し、英国の古きよき時代、
田園地帯に思いをはせるには、うってつけの本です。

文章も読みやすく、やさしい表現になっています。
