ランディさんのエッセイは、自分自身が何気なく考えていたことや普段感じていたことをうまく言葉にしてくれていたり、また考えていたことそのままと同じようなフレーズを発見したりしてとても波長が合います。
この本においては、自分の人生も自分で決められないにもかかわらず子供に説教をする親に殺意まで覚える子供の怒り、我を捨てたときに開ける新しい世界、大人になりきれておらず他者性に耐えられずに自分の子供を受け入れられない男、条件付じゃないと親に愛されなかった貴乃花の反乱、などに面白みを感じました。彼女の作品には彼女自身の家族の問題を基礎においたものが多いのですが、家族との関係は私にとっても課題となっている部分があり、彼女のエッセイを読み共感したり考えを広げたりすることで解消されるものもあるので、彼女は私にとって支えとなる作家の一人です。

初めて読んだ田口ランディの著書は、一日で一気に読み終わった。彼女の本書での主張は、一貫して俗に言う「マイノリティ」の心の深層に迫る事で繋がっているように思う。そんな彼女の主張に振れていると、日々の生活で周囲に歩調を合わせて自己の個性を埋没している私自身と、向き合わされる。説明しようの無い、小気味の良い違和感が感じられる作品。エッセイ集だと総称されているが、別に全てがノンフィクションな訳ではないだろう。でも、それは大きな事ではない。彼女のフィルタを通じて、独りの自分と、他者によって存在を認められようとする自分の境界線を感じられる気がした。

物事にはさまざまな見方があるのだと言うのが良く分かります。
野村沙知代さんは「男の生き方をしている女性だ」や、
人を殺すのは何故いけないのか？そこを田口さんらしく
分析し、論じてあります。
一つ間違えば重いテーマでも独特の切り口、語り口で
それを感じさせないのも良かったです。

また、街中で彼女が見た一風変わった人たちと田口さんとのやり取りは
絶妙ですね。面白かったです
