~アイドルとして絶頂期にあった1964年に出版された自著「In His Own~~ Write」（彼自身の筆によって）の訳書である。この本は、一般的にはただのポップアイドルであったレノンが、レコード業界とは別の領域で才能を評価され始めるきっかけとなったようだ。もっとも、人気の波に乗ってベストセラーにはなったものの、「10ページ以上読んだファンはいない」などと揶揄されたらしい。原因は、その難解な内容にある。短編物語集の体裁に~~なっているが、題名からして「in his own right」（彼自身の権利によって）という本のもじりらしく、全編通して言葉遊びに満ちている。音の面白さのみに重点を置いて書かれている部分も多く、普通の感覚で意味を読み解こうとするのは無駄な努力と言える。

そういう意味では、日本語に訳すことは不可能である。だから、そのような困難な翻訳に挑んだ片岡義男ら翻訳家の業績をひも解き、彼らなりの解釈を楽しむのならいいが、レノン本人の感性を味わうには、その部分を差し引いて考える必要がある（それでも彼独特の世界はかなり伝わってくる）。ちなみに2冊目の著書、「A Spaniard in the~~ Works」も、「らりるれレノン」として日本語訳されている。~
