なんだかすごく、真剣に読みました。
初回読んだときも線引っ張って読んだけれど、
今回も、線をさらに重ね、ページを折り、メモを取り、
すっごく真剣に読みました。

小説を書きたいと一度も思ったことはありません。
今だにただのひとつも、小説など書いたことはありません。
でもそこに、小説を通して「世界の構成の仕方」が書かれていたので、
しかもひたすら真剣に、真摯に書かれていたので、
ぼくも真剣に読んでしまったのです。
ぼくには「世界の構成の仕方」がわからなくて、
本当に、いつもいつも、苦しい思いをしています。

とても濃い本でした。
こんなに、一冊の本の色んな箇所を
引きずり込まれるように、真剣に対話しながら読んでしまうことはまれです。
重みのある弾を、ぼくに何発も撃ち込んできます。
ずし、ずし、ずし、ずし、ずしっときます。ずずずって。

ま、好きな人はとことん好きで、
無縁な人にとっては、とことん無縁な本だと思います。

5.0 out of 5 stars そうかな、書きあぐねている人に最も必要な内容だと感じたけど, 2004/10/10
保坂さんの本が好きでも、嫌いでも、
ストーリーテラーであっても、逆でも。
いずれにしても、本当に書くことに真摯に向き合っている人には
とても心に響く内容であったように感じました。
いわゆる「ハウツー本」ではないので、今まで日記しか書いてない人が
いきなり小説を書くために読む本ではないように思いました。
それならもっと別にいい本があると思います。

でも、言葉にできない何かを言葉にするために戦っているような人には
最適な本かもしれないと思いました。
保坂さんは自らの文学に対する哲学を述べたいのではなく、単に、自分が
創作活動するうえで躓いてきた事柄について、アドバイスをしたかっただけ、のように素直に受け取れました。
いい本だと感じました。

　小説とは、「社会化されている人間の中にある社会化されていない部分をいかに言語化するかと言うこと」。
「私たちの言葉や美意識、価値観を作っているのは、文学と哲学と自然科学だ。その3つはどれも必要なものだけれど、どれが根本かと言えば、文学だと私は思う。」

この2つのフレーズに代表されるように、著者の小説への想いは高い。しかし技法的なアドバイスも、例えば風景を書くことで書き手は鍛えられるなどと、いろいろある。

　そして最後に、既成の小説の書き方の本や創作講座の講師はテクニックや形式のことばかり教えてしまうが、それを通じて「既成の小説」という最悪の枠を小説家志望者に押し付ける結果になることに気がついていない、その著者や講師のほとんど全員は実作者ではないし実作者であったとしても優れた実作者ではない、と手厳しい。

　書きあぐねている人にも書きあぐねていない人にも参考になる内容である。芥川賞作家の目線の高さを感じた。
