1章は読むのにかなり苦労しました。受精後の染色体の分裂の様子から遺伝子の仕組みや発見の歴史を医学的な見地から記述されていたので、素人にはなかなか難解な内容でした。ただ、2章以降では血友病や筋ジストロフィといった遺伝病について解説され認識を新たにできました。個人的には女性の自己免疫疾患についての知識を得たかったのですが、「ＸＸという性は複雑」ということに尽きるようです。遺伝子や遺伝病に興味がある方には有益な本です。

　なんで、女の人は理解できない考え方＆行動を取るか謎だった。これは自分に面識のある女の人が奇しくも偶然持っている病的傾向か、不思議な確率論によってそうなってるのかとも思っていた。この本を読めば疑問氷解だ。もしかすると離婚せずにすんだのかも知れない。（まそんなこたぁ無いだろけど）この本を読んだおかげで、今の結婚生活は理解できないことが理由で中断することはないだろう。よかったよかった。本当は、この本はそんな読み方をするものではないが、そういう参考にもなったということだ。星４つ。

Sry遺伝子について知りたくて見つけた本。Sry遺伝子がX染色体に乗ってしまうとXX男性が生まれるし、Sry遺伝子が乗らないXY女性も生まれる。XO女性（ターナー症候群）、XXY男性（クラインフェルター症候群）の話もわかりやすかった（さらにXの数がすごく多い男性も生まれる）。伴性遺伝病の説明についても1章が割かれている。また、女性の自己免疫疾患についても別な章で詳しい説明がある。人間だけではなく、昆虫、鳥類（鳥類はZ,W染色体）、は虫類（孵化するときの温度で性が決まる）などの話にも触れられていて、それも勉強になった。

内容では星5つにするところだが、X,Y染色体発見の歴史から始まるのでやや本題に入るまで時間が必要なのと、翻訳の癖なのか元々の作者の文章の癖なのか、いささかまわりくどい文章。それで星4つ。だが、それを除けば非常に興味深くおもしろい。お勧め。
