この本、某書店にプラスチックの台に斜めに乗って、まるでサイバラさんのように一際目立ってました。
時間が止まったような強烈な表紙につられて思わず手に取り、パラパラと内容見て即買いました。
これは、サイバラファンにとっては絶対必読モノです。

のっけから大学の先輩であるみうらじゅん氏との壮絶な対談が。はっきり言って禁句満載、大爆笑。
でも、彼女を沢山の人達が様々な視点から切り込んでいけばいくほど、
彼女の「原点」がとっても切ないものであることがはっきりと浮かび上がってきます。

巻末には単独、および共著の作品群の表紙写真と解説がついていて、
これだけでも価値あると思うほど、簡潔かつ的確に彼女の歴史をつづっています。

いや〜、ホントに人間くさいおヒトだ・・・、スゴイね、サイバラさん。

みうらじゅん氏・大月隆寛氏との対談、巻末の著書紹介は読み応え十分の内容でした。特に対談の内容はかなり濃いです。
ただ、当たり前ですが雑誌の特集が西原さんって事であり、一冊丸々西原さんってわけではないから、西原さんファンにとって興味の無い文章も少し載っています。(300ページ中の54ページ分他の内容です)
また、対談以外の内容は西原さん作品を分析した論文で、大学の研究論文を思い出させ、西原さんの漫画を娯楽として読んでいる私にはつまらないものもありました。西原さん漫画を人生のバイブル的に捉えている方にとっても、これらの論文は意見が合ったり合わなかったりするかと思います。
個人的には対談だけでも1300円分の価値有りでしたが、漫画ではなく文芸誌である事を踏まえてご購入を検討されると良いかと思います。

確かに対談はおもしろかったんだけど、後の評論は微妙でした。
何だか子供が作った積み木の家を、何のかんのとこじつけて、わざわざ難しく分析してるような、そんな感じがしました。
素直に楽しんだり泣いたり共感したりできるのが西原漫画の醍醐味なのに、とファンとしては微妙でした。
まぁ、ユリイカの文芸誌としての本質を考えれば、それも当然かもしれませんが…
