　どこか、レクター博士のいない映画『羊たちの沈黙』の雰囲気がありますが、謎を追うヒロインのクラリスの代わりに、別々に行動する二組の男たちと犯人の視点で、ストーリーが交互に展開するので、ちょっと読みにくい感じがしました。犯人を含めた閉鎖的な団体の思想的背景がいまいち説得力がなく、その根拠を考古学や遺伝子学などを援用するあたりは、面白いかもしれませんが、主人公の出生の秘密も含めて、それほど衝撃的な印象を持ちませんでした。

こういったタイプの小説は、
最初、薀蓄が多くてつまらないけど、後半から一気に物語を纏め上げます。
けど、これはそういうのがなかった。
ホント、残念。

まったく関係のない、赤の他人がある事件を捜査していくうちに、
出会ってしまうっていう話はたくさんあります。
思い切り期待はずれでした。

結局ポールはどうなったんだ？
まだ生きているのは分かるけど、ジョンとの戦い（？）のことはすんなり流され、
一番ピンチになりやすそうな逃走はほとんど一瞬で終わり。
ここが一番盛り上がるところじゃないの！！？？
と、怒りすら覚えてしまった。

果たしてあそこのコミュニティーには、ポールと６０代男性と、
不動産を紹介したときの連中の、数名しかいなかったのだろうか？
何組かのお金持ちな家族が住んでいてもよさそうなのに。

不完全燃焼でした。
