『黒衣聖母』、『黙祷』、『呪文』等の、巧緻にして難解、森厳にして蒼古な趣のある独自の「ゴスィック・ローマン詩体」。それを少し引用すると、

夢たをやかな密咒を誦すてふ
蕃神のやうな黄老が逝つた
「秋」のことく「幸福」のことく「来し方」のことく

漢字にルビがふれないのが残念だ。彼の詩を理解するには、読み方がかなり重要であるからだ。例えば「秋」などは、さはきり、と読む。

和漢洋の語彙の粋を極めた彼の独自の「ゴスィック・ローマン詩体」は目と耳で愉しむものである。難解極まる漢字と文語体の文章で、かなりとっつき難い詩だ。作家が大衆に合わせるのでは無く、大衆が作家に合わせる詩だ、と本書の中では述べられている。この詩を楽しめる者は随分と限られるだろうけれど、この特異で才能のある詩人のファンが増える事を期待したい。

訳詩も含めて日夏作品を毎朝音読するのが私の日課です。常用漢字だらけの現代に、古語雅語、「悉階の稀古なる語彙」で以って描かれた世界は受け入れ難いものでせう。けれど「忘れ去られた」ものだけに、愛着を抱く人には宝石のようなもの…事実、古書業界ではかなりの人気があります。日本語を使う悦びを感じさせてくれる麻薬の如き奇書、英会話教室なんぞに通うのはやめて、独りお部屋で『咒文乃周圍』を口づさみませう。

　これは詩か・・・・・？
　思いつきを並べたはいいが全然わからない。まるで相手にされないのも仕方がないだろう。日夏恥之介の書くものはほとんど読者を想定しておらず、やはり思いつきとしての読者しか生み出さないのではないだろうか。
