　私は、著者とＢ'sの趣味が合うので、特に違和感はない。中山の文書は、よく誤解を生むのだが、彼は彼で「よくやっている！」と思う。直感勝負、というところでいいと思う。そもそも、ロックなんてものは感じ方で決まるものだから。　でも、よくＢ'Sを聞き込んでいると思うよ。我々のように、Ｂ'sを原体験してきた者にとっては、中山の意見が決して的外れでないことがよーくわかっているだけに、特に彼の意見を批判はしたくない。これからＢ'sを聴く初心者に安心してお勧めできるいい本だと思う。

中山氏のビートルズ関連著作において、私がかつて予備知識が全くない中学生のころにビートルズの曲を聴いて感じていた想いがそのまま活字になっていました。先入観のないもっとも素直なビートルズ楽曲評と思います。

解散後にリリースされた"ANTHOLOGY"、"NAKED"等の発掘音源を1曲1ページで小気味良く取り上げている。

本書の「はじめに」に、"ANTHOLOGY"は公式バージョンを知っている耳で聴いて初めて魅力が理解できるたぐいのもの・・・・というくだりがあるが、同じように、本書は個別の楽曲に密着したコメントが並ぶ構成から、ここで取り上げられている音源を聴いていてこそ魅力がある(というか、知らないと読めない)。

帯と表紙には「解説」とあるが、解説というよりもコメントあるいは筆者のアツい主張の方が正しい。ゆえに、時には「違うだろ!」と反発し、時には「そうなんだよな」と膝を叩きながらついつい読み進んでしまい、一気に読了した。もっとも、ビートルズの場合、何を書いても必ず反論が飛んでくるだろうし、筆者も承知でアジッている。文体も独特だが読みにくくはなく、疾走感のある文体である(たぶん筆も速いのではないか)。
CD6枚というボリュームのせいもあって2-3度しか聴いていなかった"ANTHOLOGY"を今度の休みには棚から引っぱり出して聞き直してみようか、という気にさせられた、という意味ではこの本の意図は大成功である。
