なんて書くと大袈裟に思う方もいらっしゃるかもしれません。でも、私達母子にとってこの作品は棺おけにまで持って行きたい大切な作品です。

11歳の息子は、死ぬまでこの物語を忘れないでしょう。きっと、50になっても全文を暗唱できるかもしれません。暗唱できることが重要なのではなく、この物語を読んで育った彼は、必ずやどこに出しても恥ずかしくない大人に成長してくれると信じています。

そして、私もこの作品を読んで、昔は持っていたのにいつの間にか忘れてしまっていたピュアな心に戻れました。息子のような記憶力はありませんので、全文の記憶は無理ですが、主人に食後の休息の時に言いました。

「私が死んだら、この本を棺おけに入れて」

本気です。

この作品は「エブリリトルシング」で読んで大のお気に入りだっただけに今回の絵本は嬉しい限りだ。

不登校の子がこの「クワガタと少年」を読んで学校へ行くようになった、というニュースをテレビで見たのが買ったきっかけだが、読んでみてなるほど、これは生きる活力が沸いてくる素晴らしい話だと思った。

そもそも、この話を道徳の授業ででも取り上げれば、いじめさえこの世から消えてなくなる可能性すらあるだろう。

僕は会社を辞めて、ただ次の会社探しがする気が起きずにいたときにこの作品に出会った。

そして、読み終えたその次の日にはハローワークに向かっていた。

まだ再就職はできていないが、僕の気持ちが前向きになれたのはこの作品のおかげである。

その感謝の気持ちも込めて、今回、絵本の方も購入した。

絵本を自分で買うのは生まれて初めてだが、大人を意識したようなシンプルな絵に高感が持てた

子どもと昆虫屋のおじさんの会話は、男、女、大人、子供を問わずに涙なしでは読めないだろう。そして、計算され尽くされたエンディングには思わず鳥肌が立つというか、「おじさん、よくぞやってくれた」と喝采を送ってしまった。
