土地の神様に敬意を払う、言葉には魂がある・・など
昔の日本でも同じようなことが言われていたと思うのです。
国は違い、遠く離れたハワイを近くに感じられました。
ずっと前に聞いたことがある何かを思い出させてくれる
本だと思いました。
子供用の本ではないかもしれませんが子供にも
読んで聞かせたい内容もありました。

日本の呪術師ではユタ、ノロ、オガミサン、イタコが有名だが、ハワイのカフナとは違って、霊界との交信、つまり、占い、降霊が主な役割だが、驚くべきはカフナと呼ばれるハワイの呪術師であって、病気は病気の専門のカフナというように、同じカフナでも天候、農業、、漁業など何万と専門職に分岐していたという。この本はそんな古代から続くハワイの人たちの生活感や宗教観が時には物語で、時には体験談として書かれている。カフナという呪術師の記述の部分はスピリチャリズムに興味のある方なら一読すべきだし、圧巻はマナという生命力についての記述の部分だ。墓参りに行くと、心が癒されたり力がみなぎったりする経験は誰にでもあるだろう。その秘密をこの本で思い知らされた。ここでそれを解くのは読者の興味を半減させるので控えるが、小島田さよのブルー一色で描かれたイラストもハワイの海とともに霊界のブルーを連想させるようで、インパクトを与えている。

ハワイ人である著者の、ハワイやハワイの伝統などを愛する気持ちがとっても現れている本だと思います。　一般に旅行者がイメージするワイキキ周辺のハワイとはまったく異なるもので、ワイキキだけがハワイであると思っている人にとっては、かなり興味深く楽しい本だと思います。各短くまとめられた文なので読みやすくもあります。
ただ、私としては、せっかく日本に暮らしている著者ですから、もう少し客観的な目で書いて欲しかったな・・という気もし、伝説と現実などが入り混じっているような部分があり、ややすっきりしない感じもしました。
