12月に出版され、表紙にはロウソクの炎と雪が描かれているので、
クリスマス系の絵本かなと思いきや、これは全く別のものと
受け止めたほうがよいでしょう。

きょうというひに目覚めた少女が、雪で小さな家をたくさん作り、
その中にロウソクをひとつひとつ灯していく。
後はただただ、きえないように…　きえないように…
という祈りが続いていきます。

作品中で奇跡的な出来事が起こるわけでなく、
はっぴいな気持ちになるエンディングも用意されていないので、
それを期待して読むと物足りなさを感じる人もいるでしょう。

しかしながら、物語の中ではっきりと完結させないことで、
きえないように…という祈りが、本の中から我々の世界へと
届いてくるのを実感しました。

あえて作為性を排した表現だからこそ成しうる純粋なメッセージは、
国境や宗教を越えてすべての人々に伝わる強さをもっています。

はっぴぃさんが好きな人にはぜひオススメです！

荒井さんらしい静かなお話です。
女の子が雪で小さな家を作ります。ろうそくが入るくらいの。
家をたくさんつくり、その灯が消えないように祈る。
ただそれだけです。ストーリーに、起伏や盛り上がりはありません。
でも、とても優しくあたたかく、そして何よりも凛とした空気が流れています。

読んで、涙がこぼれました。

寒い冬に、あたたかいお茶をのみながら読みたい一冊です。

音のしない絵本です。
小さな女の子の振り向かない姿が健気で。
ページをめくっていくと、そっと何かに明かりが
ついていくような感じです。
淡いトーンの中に描かれたデッサンのように。
物語は盛り上がってすっと馴染んでいきます。
