　まず本をパラパラ…と、開いてみた所でがっかり。本のほとんどが、昔の妖怪本で紹介されたの妖怪を、新しいイラストで１ページひとり(？)ずつ紹介することに費やされているのでした…。もっとあの頃の妖怪本を幅広く紹介し、論じた本だと思い込んでいたので期待はずれでした。かんちがいしてた方も悪いんですが…。

　この本を見て最初に思った事はそんな感想だった。

　子供の頃から妖怪とか幽霊とか好きだった。
　鬼太郎で始まったそんな妖怪遍歴はそのまま子供向きの
妖怪関連本に移っていった。
　そこには自分の知らない妖怪や世界のモンスターたちが
描かれていた。

　この本を見て分かった。だって知っているわけはない。

それは現実に伝わる伝承を元にした、ライターや著作者の
ある種創作妖怪だったのだから。

　記述を新たに起こし、現在のイラストレーターの方で書き直された
モンスターや妖怪たちは、昭和の匂いを残しながらも、
違う見方や息吹がこめられていて楽しく見れた。
　難をいうならもう少しカラーが欲しかった。

いい意味でも悪い意味でも「昭和」を感じる。
文化・娯楽の中の妖怪が理解できた。
