知っているようで曖昧な宝石についての疑問と答えが基本的で科学的な面から金銭的，商業的な面まで幅広く書かれていて，全般的な宝石についての知識が得られる。消費者の為の宝石購入時のマニュアル，という面で，宝石業界における事実が良心的に書かれていて，役に立つ一冊だ。

宝石は高価であるが一生の品物であり思い出も封印される。でも意外に宝石店は勉強不足で消費者に粗悪品を販売していることすら気づいていない。日本の政府は消費者保護よりも企業産業保護を優先していることを消費者は忘れては痛い目にあうから、まずは最低限勉強してから高い買い物はしないとね。最高の指南書だと思います。沢山の宝石愛好家がこの本を読んで宝石店で質問すれば日本の宝石店のレベルも向上すると思うよ。

確かに高額なジュエリーを買う場合、扱うためには一度は読んでおいてもいいと思います。
しかし、著者がいっていることが全て正しいわけではなく、中にはそれは独断と偏見が過ぎないか？
と思うこともちょくちょくありました。

宝石に対する考え方も色々人によって違うので、これだけ読んでOKとはいかないと思います。
