3.0 out of 5 stars 最新のFreeBSD(5.x系)についての情報が得られます, 2004/4/8
率直に言って、このシリーズの本は、タイトルに「Expert」とつくだけあって、中級~上級者向けの記事が多いです。しかし、FreeBSD Release5.2のCD-ROMが添付しているので、最新のOSじゃないとイヤだという初心者が買い求めても悪くはないと思います。記事中には、インストールと基本設定の手順が画面キャプチャ付きで解説されているので、とりあえず始めて見たいって人にも手頃な雑誌だとは思います。（しかし、この本だけでFreeBSDを全て理解しようというのは到底無理な話です。他の本も併読しましょう。）

個人的には、現在4.9を使っているのですが、5.x系の新機能をかいつまんで知っておきたかったので購入しました。新しいファイルシステムの性能チェックや、動作検証ハードウェア情報もあるので、比較的新しいPCでFreeBSDを動かしてみようと思っている人にも有用な情報が多いです。将来的に5.x系の安定版が出た時に、4.x系からの移行（違い）を理解しておきたいって人にもお勧め出来ると思います。

繰り返しになりますが、記事の殆どは難しいです。この本だけを買ってFreeBSDを理解できないからと言って諦めない様にしましょう。FreeBSDを約３年使っている私でも内容の1/3に満たない程の理解しか出来ていません（苦笑
