初心者向けに書かれたPerlの入門書である。

説明が簡潔かつ丁寧で、途中でつまづくことなく読み進められる。
例となるプログラムが豊富なのもいい。

入門書のため内容的に豊富とはいえないが、簡単な処理をするプログラムなら、この本で学んだ知識だけで書けてしまう。また、より高度な参考書を読む前のステップとしても最適である。

なお、この本は最初から順番に読み進めていくタイプの本であり、自分の知りたいことを調べる辞書的な使い方には向かない。
また、刷数の若いものは誤植が多いため、著者のホームページの正誤表を参照したほうがいい。

プログラミング初心者には最適な本だと思います。文体もユーモラスであり、気軽に読めます。これを読んで「初めてのPerl」を読むと理解力が高まること請け合いです。

4.0 out of 5 stars 説明が丁寧なPerl入門の良書, 2005/9/30
一つのテクニックにつき、必ず分かりやすい具体例が示されて
おり、そのサンプルプログラムの解説も1行1行とても丁寧に書かれて
いて、「何言ってるのかわからん」ということはまずない。

ただ、説明がとても丁寧なだけに、ページ数のわりに内容がやや
不十分な点もある。ただ、Perlを使って文字列処理をするだけならば
十分な分量ではある。

著者は、プログラミング言語でさえやったことがない人でも
大丈夫！と謳っているが、ちょっとだけCやJavaなら知ってるよ、
程度の知識はあることが望ましいと思われる。
