　「市町村合併特例法」の優遇措置の適用期限は2005年3月。そのため各地で市町村の合併が急速に行われています。ただし，どこで合併が行われようとしているのかは意外にわからないものです。たとえば，あなたがＡ県に住んでいるとして，Ｂ県の合併の進行状況がわかるでしょうか。本書を見れば，地図で日本各地の都道府県の今の姿を知ることができます。しかもカラー。わかりやすい。また，知っているようで知らない「合併協議会の役割」や「住民発議制度」，「市町村合併のメリット・デメリット」などについても詳しい記述があるので参考になります。
