著者のミッチ・アルボム氏はブランダイズ大学を経て、コロンビア大学大学院でジャーナリズムを専攻した、人気のスポーツ・コラムニストである。

ある時、大学時代の恩師である、モリー・シュワルツ先生を偶然テレビで見かける。先生は、ALS（筋萎縮性側索硬化症）という病気に冒され余命幾ばくも無い。先生は残りの人生を自分らしく生き抜くことを決意し、自分の死を見つめ、何かを学べと提案する。

本書は、あわてて飛んできた著者が、先生が亡くなるまで毎週火曜日先生の自宅に訪問し、愛／仕事／社会／家族／老い／死／など様々な問題を語り合った記録である。

モリー先生が「いかに死ぬかを学べば、いかに生きるかも学べる」と述べるように、自らの行き方を考える上で、老若男女問わず、すべての人にオススメしたい普及の名作である。

英語のレベルも初級〜中級当たりなので、オーディオブックと平行して勉強すれば、英語力の上達が望める。
ぜひ、原作で生の感動を味わって欲しい。

ずいぶん前のことですが、よく本屋に平積みされていましたっけねぇ。
その後しばらくして、DVDを借りてきて見ました。
なかなかよい作品だと思って、ぜひ原著でと思っていました。

感動的で、人生への示唆に富んだ言葉がならんでいます。
力のある言葉は、言語を選びませんね。
本当にいい本です。
生を賭けて言葉をつむぐ、その壮絶さは正岡子規に通じます。
やはり映像作品とは違った感動を与えてくれます。

英語のほうはといいますと、
文も割と平易なので、初級〜中級。高校を卒業した程度の人に最適です。

ぜひ、感動を原著で味わってください。
英語の勉強にもなって、感動も一石二鳥？

内容はNHKのドラマでも紹介されましたが、、、
闘病中の大学教授と元教え子の著者が毎週火曜日に会って、
ベッドの横で人生について語り合うという、
大変に感動的な物語りです。
英語はわかりやすいですので、大人の洋書入門書としても、
おすすめです！
朗読CDとともに読むと楽でした！
