講談社バイリンガル・ブックスのシリーズが好きで１冊ずつ順に丹念に読んでいます。この「雑学ニッポン」も以前から読みたいと思っていたもので、既に古くなってきた為やや躊躇していましたが、予想通り大変面白い内容に書かれていました。それも元々「・・・・ニッポンの謎」として出版された書に英訳をつけたものですから、内容的に良いのは肯けます。このニッポンに関する謎も、普段は気にも留めていなかった日本人特有の言動に対し、見事に言い当て、またその理由を明快に説明してくれていることに感心しました。特に歴史的に見ていつの時代にこうなったとか、身の回りのふとした疑問、いかにも日本人的な事象、日本の弱点等々見事に捌いています。英語にいくつか誤りが見られますが、まあ無視できる程度でしたから減点はしませんでした。シリーズの中でも面白い内容の１冊で、満足しました。

外国の人は、日本に来て、こんな疑問を抱くのか？ということも知れたし、自分も知りたいと思うことも知れたし、英語の勉強にもすごく良かったです。

ただ、日本人は腐った様なにおいの食べ物が好きだとか、若干「あれ？」と思うものもありましたけどね。

面白かったし、為にもなりました。

英語と日本語とのバイリンガルの本なので、色々な使い方が出来ると思います。
