子供の教科書でスイミーを見たとき、懐かしい思い出がよみがえりました。自業自得もあるでしょうけど、よくいじめられていた子供の頃の私・・・何故かスイミーを読んで、１人でもできることがある、頑張ればまたみんな仲間に入れてくれる、そう自分を励ました事を思い出します。

子供は教科書の絵しか知らないので、この絵本を見つけてきました。「うわぁほんとうにくらげ、ゼリーみたいやん」と、また子供なりの発見もあったようです。「でもなんで絵ぜんぶ反対なん？」・・・あれ？ホントだ。教科書は絵が左右反対でした。これも発見かな？

小学校２年生の教科書で出会って以来、
谷川さんの訳を完全に暗記しています。
絵が文章にぴったりだったせいか、自分のイメージと
１００％一致していて、小２からのお気に入りの本です。

「ぼくが目になろう！」というフレーズは特にお気に入り。
そうお感じになる人が多いのではないかと思います。
大人になっても読める名作です。

教科書でこの「スイミー」をはじめて知った世代の子供たちももう
親の世代になっている頃です。お子さんの教科書で再会された方も
少なくないと思います。
ところで絵本版のスイミーと教科書版のスイミーはかなりちがって
いるのにお気付きになられたでしょうか？
平仮名から漢字に変わっているのはまあ何となく理由がわかりますが
「おなかすかせた→おなかをすかせた」となっていたり、会話の部分
なんかは全く違う切り方になっています。
全体にスタンダードな日本語に変えられてしまっていて、その分味わい
が足りないような気がします。絵が大幅に減らされているのも不満です。
「ああ、これがスイミーか〜」で終わってしまうのはいかにも残念。
お子さんにはこちらも是非見せてあげてください。
