この本の英語版はバジリコ『推理クイズ道場ウミガメのスープ』より１０年以上前に出ている。つまり日本ではどうあれ水平思考推理ゲームの本としてはこちらが元祖。
ところが英語版はタイトルにも本文中にも「ウミガメのスープ」という言葉は一切ない。ウミガメの問題も原文ではアホウドリ料理。日本では「ウミガメのスープ」という言葉の認知度が高いがゆえの日本語バージョンか？ああ、ややこしい。
しかしそれ以外は原書の忠実な翻訳。読み物として読んでもよし、友達相手に実際に出題してもよし。手に取ってみて損はない。
なおこの著者コンビによるシリーズは１０冊以上出版されている。翻訳が待たれる。

「こんな答えが分かるはずがない」というものもありますが、この本は、著者も行っている通り、正解を競うのではなく、正解を出すまでの思考プロセスを楽しむための本です。なので、すぐに答えをみるのでなく、じっくり気長に取り組まれるのが良いと思います。

あと、一人でやるより、何人かでやるのと、自分が他の人に質問したりして他人の反応をみるのも結構楽しめます。（そういう意味では、自分が読んだあとでも結構楽しめる）

レベル１からレベル４のパズル的要素の強い問題が計８１問あります。
文字数が少ない本なのに最後までたどり着くのがなかなかです。
問題のレベルはランダムに並べられてて、ヒントもあるので楽しみながら読んでいく事が出来ます。
これを読み終わったときには考え方がかなり柔軟（ひねくれた？）になりますよ。
