内容は、ランゲンシャイトの小辞典を圧縮したものですから信頼できます。語義が語源学的な、あるいは出現頻度による系統になっていない、という点はたしかに引きにくさがあります。しかし、動詞の用法に支配する格が記載されている点はたいへん便利です。これは、大きな辞書にも載っていないことがあります（例文を見れば格はわかるのですが、初学者にはたいへんでしょう）。古代の文献を扱うのではなく、中世以降のラテン語を読む上では、実際、中型辞典としてはそれほど遜色なく機能すると思われます。

ですから、初学者は一冊もっていても損はしないと言えるでしょう。そして、たいていの上級者も実は持っているのではないでしょうか？

普通に購入できる唯一の羅和辞典。
ただし、かなり大型の書店でないとおいていない。

＜良い点＞
語数が多い。キリスト教の語彙も収録されているので、中世ラテンを
読む際には便利。
古いもののわりに印刷がよく、見やすい。紙もベージュ系で目に優しい。
多くの変化形が見出し語としてのっているので、初学者でも原形にたどりつける。

＜良くない点＞
例文がほとんどない。また、語義が、よく使われる意味から順にのって
いるのではない。ゆえに、適切な語義を選び出すのが大変。

つまり、辞書としてはよくないけれども、いわば「ワードファインダー」
として、とりあえず意味だけ確認しようという場合には重宝します。

　たしかに、ほぼ唯一の『羅和辞典』とはいうものの、「本書に記されている母音の長短表記には、随分と信頼性に欠けるところがある」と断言せざるを得ません。　例えば、重子音の前の母音に長音記号が引かれていたりする辺りは、むしろ初心者を困惑させるものだとしか云えません。

　１０代の頃に本辞典を用いつつラテン語を習得したが為に、後年になって母音の長短の誤謬を訂正するのに、一苦労も二苦労もした事実は否めないからです。
