この辞書は同じ研究社からでている「リーダース英和辞典」及び「リーダースプラス」に収録されている経済関係用語を基に、それらに載ってないものを新たに入れて作られた英和辞典である。見出し語約３３，０００、イディオム約５００、用例妬く４０００語となっている。

タイトルは単に「ビジネス英和辞典」だが、外見的な大きさから言えば「大辞典」といえるであろう。これだけ大きく重いとリーダースなどのようにかばんに入れて持ち歩くわけにはいかないと思う。

いろいろ出ている経済英和辞典の中ではトップレベルのものといえるが、１９９９８年に出版されたものなので、金融ビッグバンなど大きな変化を遂げた現在の日本経済からいえば物足りない部分もある。またこれだけの大辞典なのにfiscal disciplineといったよく使われる用語が抜けているのも気になる。改訂版を望みたい。

　本書の第１部はページをパラパラとめくりながらビジネス関係の用語を身につける「読む辞典」としても使えます。
　2007年1月に3000以上の見出し語が追加され、本書の全面改訂版として改題された『研究社 総合ビジネス英和辞典』が発行されました。版形が本書のB5版に近いサイズ（高さ方向が2cm長い）からA5版（「リーダース英和辞典」とほぼ同じサイズ）と小さくなり、799ページから1012ページにページ数が増えていますが、定価は1,300円安くなっています。しかし、『総合〜』では企業名・商標も一体となってしまったため、「読む辞典」としての使いやすさは後退しています。
　今日のように企業再編成の頻繁な今日においては、本書のように２部構成として２部の改訂を頻繁（『総合〜』までの10年間というスパンとせず）に行なう手もあったのではと思います。
