小説『ダ・ヴィンチ・コード』の説く「事実」は、確かな史実や資料に基づいたものではなく、ただのアイディアに過ない。また誤りも多い。この本は、その問題点と真実をキリスト教になじみの薄い人にも、わかりやすく具体的に教えてくれる。問題となっているダ・ヴィンチの名画「最後の晩餐」の観方も、この本を読めばより一層深まるだろう。キリスト教文化の豊かな知の冒険に案内する好著である。

皆神龍太郎「ダ・ヴィンチ・コード最終解読」をはじめとして、日本語で読める「ダ・ヴィンチ・コード」批判文献が増えてきたのは大変幸いなことですが、本書はその中でも、ダ・ヴィンチ・コードによって一方的に誤ったイメージを流布されたカトリック教会内の組織「オプス・デイ」会員による著作であることに特徴があります。「ダ・ヴィンチ・コード」によってなされた非道な中傷に対して、非常に的確に対応しています。

オプス・デイは教皇に忠実で、カトリック教会の正統的な教えを守る立場を鮮明にしているため、異端的傾向を持つ教会内の現代主義者たちからもありとあらゆるネガティブ・キャンペーンの対象とされていますが、本書などを通じて、オプス・デイの真の姿が一般の方々にも広く知られ、ネガキャンに対する最終的勝利の日が訪れることを願わずにはいられません。
