言うまでもないことですが、岩田氏が生前書き残した有形無形の文章は、とてもこんな本一冊には収まりません。この本を一読すると、岩田氏の洗練された文章と巻末の座談会で語られる人物像とのギャップに戸惑うかもしれませんが、それは掲載する文章を選りすぐった結果であるように感じます。けれども、仮に文章を全て集めたとしても、岩田氏の実体は見えてこないでしょう。それでも、今この本を発行しなければ岩田氏の考えや志が風化されてしまうかもしれないという想いは十分伝わってきます。
