「武士道」は他の訳者の本も持っていたが、ハードカバー、大活字のこの佐藤氏訳本も購入してみた。こういうハードカバーの本で読むと、なんとなく心も改まってくる。

「武士道」の内容については諸家の解説に詳しい。あえて一言で言えば、かつてこの国に確かに存在した日本人の心の清らかさと気高さ、それのみならず、いつの時代どこの国においても普遍的な、人間の高貴な魂の在り方を説いた著作である。著者のような日本人を持ったことを、私たちは大いに誇りにして良いと思う。

佐藤氏の訳文は、著者の新渡戸氏の高潔な精神を平易な現代日本語でみごとに訳出していて、新渡戸氏の息遣いまでが伝わってくる。本文下の段の訳者による注釈は、ひとつひとつの事柄を丁寧に取り上げ、そして簡潔明瞭に解説している。新渡戸氏の古今東西の歴史･文学･哲学に関する該博な知識･教養を分かりやすく解説している。

この訳本は、大きさも手ごろで、旅行の時でも手軽に持っていける。私にとってはまさに座右の書となっている。

新渡戸稲造の名著「武士道ー日本の魂」が出版されて西暦2001年でちょうど百年になる。

この　まえがき　の一文からこの本は始まる。

新渡戸稲造の「武士道ー日本の魂」を訳した本は多数あり、「武士道」の内容に関する意見、内容レビューも多く書かれているので内容にはもう特に触れる必要はないと思う。的確に書かれた他のレビューを参考にしていただきたい。

この本は特に、「武士道」には興味はあるが・・・新渡戸稲造？難しいんじゃないか？と敬遠している方にオススメしたい。確かにこの本の内容は難しい。聖書から論語まで様々な書物からの引用による内容示唆は、その引用物を知らなければさっぱり分からない。

しかしこの本はページの下１/４が文中に出てくる難しい内容の解説になっており、大?内容が理解しやすいのである。

年配の方々からすると「そんなことも知らないのか」「勉強不足だ」と言われるかもしれないが、知らない事は知らないのだ。読んでいて分からないことはすぐ下に注釈があるのは無知な者には大変うれしい。中には中学、高校の歴史の授業で出てきた書物や人物の名前もあり、新たな発見をする面白さ、自分の記憶力の危うさやそれこそ勉強不足を肌で感じる。

この本一冊読むだけで様々な知識が手に入り、なんともお得な気分にもなれると思う。

『武士道』は読んでみたいけど難しいのではないか？と思い躊躇していました。
こちらは解説がついていて大変読みやすく全体を理解することができました。
