チョコレートが禁止されただけで、こんなに多くの人が窮屈に感じてしまうのだから、それが自由に置き換えられたことしたら。。。。と思うとぞっとする話である。なかなか自分の身に起きるまで、人は動かないもんだ。平和ぼけしている私たちには、ちょっと痛い話でした。自分がやらなくても、誰かが何とかしれくれるよ。。という気持ちは少なくともみんな持っているはず。こんな事が現実に起きたら、みんな確実に選挙には行くようになるだろうなぁ。。
それにしても、地下にあるチョコバーなんて滅茶苦茶楽しそう！

まず、チョコレート好きは必ず読むべし！
そして、甘党ではないという人も読むべし！

これは単なる児童文学やお楽しみ物語ではありません。
大人の無責任さ、子供の大胆さ、そして真実を求めて
それを勝ち取ることの大切さを根底に流しながら
一気に終わりまで読めちゃいます。

今の社会、あなたは・私は自分の権利や責任を簡単に

放棄していませんか？あって当たり前のものだと思っていませんか？
気がつかないうちに「当たり前」の自由が何者かによって奪われ、
それによって自分がどんなに恵まれていたのかを
思い知らされる時が来る前に、ぜひ一読を！

いろいろな社会問題をユニークな視点で笑い飛ばす視点や、大人の社会の問題を子供の人間関係に置き換えて笑えないジョークにする感性は、さすがアレックス・シアラーとしかいいようがありません。

この本を読みながら思ったことは、「選択する自由」のある素晴らしさです。
どんなに良いことであっても、他人の価値観を強制されることは苦痛です。世の中、健康な人がいれば、不健康な人もいる。成功する人がいれば、堕落する人もいる。それはすべて、本人の選択に委ねられるべきだということです。
強制されたささやかな安定には、それに甘んじる人は多くても、魅力は感じないということです。

しかし、この本を読み、こんなことを思うのはあまり楽しい読み方ではないと思います。ちょっと無理して意味を探す小説ではないような気がします。
きっとこの本は、良くできた娯楽ドラマを見るように、おもしろおかしく読むのが正しい読み方でしょう。あまり、深いことを考えずにお話を楽しむことをお奨めします。
