内容としては、今までのどの作品よりも現実社会のニュースや出来事とリンクしている部分が多い気がします。高校生の絡む事件、ブルセラ・売り・ドラッグ・家庭内暴力・・・どれも描写が生々しいため、目を覆いたくなるような内容もありますが、盛田隆二作品らしく全体に力のある鋭い作品ではないかと思います。
読む側よりも、書いている本人はもっとつらいのではないか？と感じずにはいられないリアリティさに鳥肌がたってしまいました。

帯やあとがきに書いてある通り、作者が逃げずに書いた現実的な物語だと思った。あのサカキバラ事件時代、世の中の一部は実際こんな感じであったのだろうか。ブルセラ、援助交際、薬、家庭内暴力。遠い世界の様だが、この様な現実も、ある程度認めなければならないのかもしれない。そして今でもこのような世界は存在するのだろうか・・・。
ストーリー的には最初から最後まで、衝撃的で、目を逸らしたくなるようなこともたくさん書かれていた。始めの一ページ目を読んでもらえれば分かると思うが、そんなものではない。ここまで書いてしまう作者にただただ、言葉を失うだけだった。

現実は過去と地続きであること。

敷かれたレールに乗ることは
実はとても楽なのだということ。

敷かれたレールに乗ることも
自分の選択であるということ。
「自業自得」っていう言葉が重い。
重くて、悲しい。
