北海道警察本部に警察庁から特別監察が入った。やってきた監察官は警察庁のキャリアである藤川警視正。藤川は、半年前、道警の裏金問題の為に百条委員会でうたった(証言した)津久井刑事を彼のもとに呼び出し、監察の協力を要請した。藤川は道警の何に疑問を抱いているのかはっきりとは言わなかった。一方、札幌大通署の佐伯刑事は、署から程近いホテルでの部屋荒らしの件で捜査に向かっていた。被害にあった男は、昨年末、すすき野の風俗営業店での「会社員転落死事故」で死んだ男の父親だった。息子の死が転落事故として処理されたことに納得のいかない父親が、大通署に再捜査の依頼に来て、ホテルに泊まっていたのだという。転落事故に不信を抱いた佐伯は、部下の新宮とともに事故現場である風俗営業店に向かうのだが…。

北海道警察本部に警視庁から送り込まれた若きキャリアの監察官。彼が暴こうとしているのは警察内部と暴力団との癒着。
助けを求めに来た売春婦を追っ手に引渡し、ある転落死を単なる事故と片付けた。その事が外国のメディアで報道された事によって本部から派遣されてきたのである。

しかし内部の不正行為を糾弾するのは困難である。完全なるたて社会であり、そのつながりの強固さ故暗礁に乗り上げるかと思われた調査を助けるのは以前内部告発した警官である。
彼は内部告発によって「裏切り者」の烙印を押され閑職に甘んじていた。正に「正直者は場バカを見る」世界である。

彼の協力により、事件の真相、黒幕、不正が何故行われたのかが言及されるにつれ、警察の抱える矛盾も浮かび上がってくる。

文章のテンポもよく非常に読みやすい。
警察小説の分野で最も面白い作品を書く作家だと感じる。
他の作品も読んでみたい。

5.0 out of 5 stars シリーズでぜひ続けて欲しい作品, 2007/12/19
警察庁からきた男、藤川警視正。彼のキャラが非常にいいです。クールで切れ者、そのキャリアがスターバックスのカフェラテにこだわったり、「退職後ってそんなに大事なのか？」と無邪気に聞いて周囲を思いっきりしらけさせたり。警察内部の不正を扱いながらも、警察だって捨てたものじゃないと信じられるそんなストーリーで、展開も早く最後まで一気に読めます。藤川警視正を囲むメンバーも個性豊かでみな絶妙の組み合わせです。ぜひ彼の今後の活躍も読みたいと思います。
