最近では間違ったいやらしいメイド像が多く、「メイド」という名前自体が
オタク的なものだと思われがちですが、この作品はそれを打ち消してくれます。
清潔な服とエプロンを身につけ、家事を手際よく黙々とこなす女性の姿。
その姿は清楚の一言につき、シャーリーはそれに可愛らしさも持ち合わせています。
　
好きな場面は、シャーリーが暖炉の炎をぼんやりとながめているシーン。
炎に照らされる幼い少女の顔は「愛らしい」としか言いようのないもので、
それを優しく見つめる女主人がまた素敵で、印象に残っています。
　
収録されている「5歳の少年当主とメイドさん」「悪戯好き当主と勝気なメイドさん」
どちらも、主人と使用人ながら心通わせている姿が描かれていて素晴らしいものです。
「メイド」という言葉に偏見無く読んで欲しいなと思いました。

　舞台は１９世紀辺りの英国。
　大人しくて、健気で頑張り屋さんの、１３歳の可愛いメイドの女の子“シャーリー”と、大らかで優しく美しい、街の人気者である２８歳の女主人のお話です。

　とにかく、少女メイドのシャーリーが可愛すぎます。

　仔猫のようでもある、黒髪オカッパで無口な子が、ご主人様のために一所懸命に動き回ってる姿は、“いいこいいこ”と頭を撫でてあげたくなるほど愛らしいです。

　女主人とは、姉妹のようであり、母娘のようでもある……けれどもやはり主従の関係であります。

　メイドと主人の関係ですが、お互いがお互いを大切に思っていて、見ていて優しい気持ちになります。

　小さな幸せを大切にしたくなる作品でした。

　他、五歳の少年が主人であるメイドのお話!、イタズラ好きの旦那様と気の強いメイドのお話が収録されています。こちらもまた非常に素晴らしい。

　巷にある似非メイド漫画とは一線を画していて、作者のメイドの対する拘りと愛情が伝わってきます。

　この本に収録されているどのお話も、読み易く、丁寧な作りです。広くに薦められる漫画だと思います。

森薫さんの作品はこれが初めてだったのですが
とても楽しめました。
特別な事は何も起こらないのです。主人公のシャーリーがお人形を買ってもらったり、たまに失敗したりと、ただそれだけなのです。
でも、読み終わったとき、何かあたたかいものを感じるでしょう。
男女問わずおすすめです！

シャーリー以外の短編もとても素敵ですよ。
