少年漫画の主人公は、強くなっていく。
それは勝負に勝つことだったり、相手の上を行く頭脳だったり、仲間が増えていくことだったりする。
けれど、この作品の主人公は、そうではない。
ケンカは最初から強いし、元から天才だ。そして仲間はあんまり増えない(笑)
けれど、主人公は確実に強くなっている。
何に対して？

この作品における「強さ」。それは、勝負でも、頭でも、仲間でも無い。
「運命を受け止め、それを乗り越える強さ」だ。

普通の少年漫画では、主人公とその仲間くらいしか「強く」ならず、
周りの大人やヒロインは、物語の最初と最後を比べても、たいして変わらない。
けれど、この作品は、誰もが確実に強くなっていく。
ヒロイン、ウィンリィもまた。
錬金術師でもなく、軍人でもない、普通の女の子。
彼女をして「許すことと堪えることは違う」と言わせる。
この強い目！

彼女は主人公のために強くなったのではない。
それは主人公とは関係無い、彼女自身の問題だった。
強さ。
それは外部と比較して表れるのではなく、キャラクター自身の内に存るもの。

だから私は、この物語に勇気をもらう。
大好きなマンガです。

『ブリッグズに血の紋を刻め』
エドに突きつけられる無情なる人間兵器としての命令。
先遣隊の探索に向かった兵士たちに忍び寄る怪しき影。
オリヴィエの中央への呼び出しによる指導者の不在。
ブリッグズの掟『弱肉強食』はエドたちに牙をむいていた。


18巻では7人目のホムンクルス『プライド』の正体が明らかになります。
『錬丹術は希望となるのか』『アルに起こる異変』『人柱』など
どちらかというと次につなげるための要素が多かったと思います。
特に『お父様』がつくっていた錬成陣には不気味な威圧感がありました。

『許すことと堪えることは違う』
この巻で最も印象に残ったのはこの言葉です。
以前、師父が『堪えろ』と言ったとき、それを単なる『自己満足』としか
思わなかった自分の薄っぺらさを思い知らされました。

月刊で毎回読んでいてもまた読みたくなります。
もう次の巻が待ち遠しいです。

18巻では最後のホムンクルスの正体が明かされます。
じわじわとホムンクルス側に包囲を狭められながらも、
立ち向かっているアル達の姿勢が良いです。
あと、18巻ではオリヴィエの言動が光っていたと思います。
部下には女性扱いされてないですが、上司として理想的な人です。

遂に最後のホムンクルス「プライド」の意外な正体が明かされます　驚きです。
更にアルの魂が引っ張られてきました　終幕に向けて加速していきます。
