エンターテイメントとしての原作のレベルの高さにかんがみると、とてもそれを小説化したとは思えない拙さ。
軍部サイドのストーリーなど、発想はそれほど悪くないとは思うが、何より小説１巻から総じて文筆業とは思えない文章力の欠如が少しも改善されていないし、恐らく漫画を小説化するにあたって周辺知識の勉強など少しもしていないだろうと思われる作品の底の浅さが耐えかねる。

原作本誌の性格を考えれば本書の対象年齢も本来は中高生なのだと思われるが、諸所であれだけの高い評価を受ける「鋼」の小説化ならよりハイレベルな作家を起用すべきだったと思う。
がっかりした。
星２つにしたのは原作者の書き下ろしイラストへの評価で、小説自体は星１つが相当。

小説もほのぼのでなかなか良いのですが。
何と言っても原作者後書きの、ラフスケッチ。
少し大人びたエド・アル・ウィンリィ。このアルフォンスが何と、元に戻った姿なんですよ！これは初めて描かれたはず！
一見の価値ありです。

今回は、小説の1巻の十三番倉庫の怪のように、コミカルな話となっています。
遠い空の下と、ロイの休日　話は違っていますが、どちらも今までの自分を振り返っていて、何かを身につけたように思います。
原作は最近、シリアスな展開になっているので、ちょっと気分を変えるのにはちょうどいいと思いますよ。
