あらゆる個性や自己主張を排して、ひたすらに平凡、もっと言えばダサく凡庸なものを追求してきた刑務所作業製品。都築はそこにものづくりの一つの極北を見出している。無印良品にあるミニマリズムの哲学すら、ここにはない。とにかく凡庸こそが刑務所製品のアイデンティティなのだ。最初から誰かに評価されることを期待していない内向的な佇まいの製品をこれほど並べてみると、不思議な迫力がある。一つ一つはどの製品もどうってことなく、そのどうってことない感じがやたらと懐かしい。刑務所製品に触れて育ったわけでもないのに、この懐かしさはどこから来るのか。多くの人が目をそむける日本人の平凡。相変わらず著者の着眼には唸らせられる。

一部で話題になっている「刑務所の前掛け」など様々な刑務所作業製品が掲載されており、矯正展等で買うときの参考になるといえる。味噌・醤油と同様人気のブルースティックやうどんなどといった製品が掲載されていないのが残念なかぎりだが、刑務所作業製品というなかなか知られていないものに着眼点を置くのはすばらしいといえる。

以前から刑務所で作られた商品は良品だと聞いておりました。
この写真集を見て、ノーブランドですがさまざまな良品が作られていることを
再認識しました。

家具以外にも、Yシャツ、クッション、皮靴など。
皮靴などは、ビジネスでも履けるような立派なものです。

矯正展で品物を購入したくなりました。

ノーブランドだけど、品質の良いもの

が、そこにはあります。
