私は映画を先に見ました。
主演のウィルはもちろんですが、
彼の息子のジェイデン(主人公の息子役)の初映画。
かわいかったぁ…

が、こちらは自叙伝。
映画では描かれていない部分も書かれています。
継父から虐待されていた事実、包帯のエピソードなどは
クリスが切ない子供時代を乗り越えてたことや
息子を絶対に手放さなかったこと、
さらには財を築き上げるまでの
重要な背景になっていると思わざるを得ません。

苦しくても道は開けるという事を教えてくれる一冊です。

りりーさんでは、ないけれども、やはり世界共通“オカンの力はすごい”。著者クリスガードナーは、母の再婚相手から虐待を受け、スラムに近いところで生活をし、挙句の果てには、子連れホームレスになるのだが、母の言葉｢あなただっ、１００万ドル稼ぐことができるのよ｣を胸に希望を持ち続ける。親が子供にしてあげられることはどんな境遇にいても希望を持って生きていけるように精神的な心の支えになったり、強く生きていく方法を教えてあげることだと思います。オカンは、アメリカでもすごかった。

父親の顔を知らずに育ち、コネもなければ、学歴もない。妻にも逃げられ、子連れホームレスとなった男が、再起をかけて立ち上がり、自らの努力で億万長者となる感動の半生です。
サクセスストーリーですが・・生きることに切ないときも、気弱になるときもある。つまずき、挫折、失敗は人生を知り、一歩成長するためのステップと考えて行動する。一歩前進、二歩後退、立ち止まってしまうことや遠回りをすることがあっても、それを成功の一つのステップとして考えることができる。人生をトータルとして考えることができて、ちょっとした出来事にも動じない。目標に向かい努力し続ける体力と強い意志が必要ですね。
