　放送大学の「社会技術概論」を受講してこの分野にとても興味を持って小林先生の本を読ませていただきました。少し前に話題になった「若者の理科離れ」とは別に「一般市民が科学技術に対する興味・関心を持つことの意義」について考えさせてくれる１冊です。現代社会は理科の知識がないことだけが問題なのではなく、科学技術に関わらずに生きてはいけないこと、知識がないから決められません、わかりません、という考えでは一般市民にとって最終的に重い現実、時には悲惨な現実を足元から受けかねないのだと強く共鳴をしました。小林先生は「科学技術のシビリアンコントロール」という提唱をされていますが、ナルホドと思いました。
　単に「文系と理系の乖離が問題」くらいしか私は知識としてなかったのですが、科学技術コミュニケーションという新しい分野があることを知って、単に授業を聞きました、だけではなく実際に何らかの形でこういう活動に関わっていけたらいいなあと思いました。
　単に「そうかー」と頷いて閉じる本ではなく、読後大いに考えさせられる一冊です。お勧めです。

　一般の人々は，科学的に正しく理解していても，心で納得出来なければ信用しない，という指摘は感覚的によく分かります．安全と安心の違いなのでしょう．原発や遺伝子組み換え，BSE問題など，日常からかけ離れた想像しにくいものほどその傾向が強いとのこと．それだけ，科学技術が複雑になり高度化し，社会に及ぼす影響も大きくなったいま，専門家だけでコトを決めることはできない時代であることを指摘しています．
　最近巷でみかけるサイエンスショップ，サイエンスカフェもその流れにあったことも知りました．
　このように，専門家としての心得として，市民としての心得として重要な視点がいくつも指摘され，具体的な取り組み事例も複数について詳細に示されています．
　つまるところ，科学と技術は別ものであり，安心と安全も別ものであることを皆が認識し，技術と安心は市民のコンセンサスが不可欠であるということだと思います．そしてそのコンセンサスの取り方と社会への反映のさせ方は，さらなる試行と改善が必要なのだと感じました．
