　上巻を含めて本書がWindowsプログラミングのバイブルであることは、否定できない事実です。上巻に比べると優先度は低くなるかもしれませんが、マルチスレッドやDLLなど不可欠の要素も含まれています。

　ただし、Petzold氏の趣味が多分に含まれているのか、上巻も含めて項目ごとの説明に詳しさの濃淡が結構あるように思います。下巻でいえば、今ではあまり優先度が高いとは思えないパレットなどについて、冗長ともいえるほど詳細な説明がなされています。また、理解が困難なトリッキー・コードが説明なしに使われている点も少し気になりました。

いわゆる「ペゾルド」といえばコレ。

C言語におけるK&Rに匹敵するが、もっと実践的で、Windowsというシステムの底辺を理解するにはこの本は外せない。
C言語はだいたいできるようになったけど、実用的なアプリケーションが書けるようになりたい、というプログラミング初心者が、ここから始めてみるのも一つの手。C++なんて後に置いとけばいい。

私は、WindowsのWの字も知らない頃に(Windows3.0の時代)、この本の初版を渡されて、片っ端からサンプルを「手で」入力してWindowsプログラマとなりました。

Windows.NETの世界の登場で、今や過去の遺産になりつつあるWin32APIだが、とにかくWindowsのプログラミングなら文句は言わせない、と言い切れるプログラマになるためには欠かせない一冊。

Windowsのプログラミングは、この本の初版で勉強しました。
OSが変わるたびに、プログラミングWindowsも内容が増えてきて、捕らえ所ががわからなくなりつつあります。
WIN32APIは、プログラマの基本的なインタフェースです。
実際にプログラムを動かして試してみるとよいと思います。
