この分野では著名な熊田氏の監修本。

C型肝炎やインターフェロンに関する書物は多い中、B型慢性肝炎に絞った本は少ない。エンテカビルの長期投与での変異株の出現などの問題もあり、新たな治療薬が治験段階になるなど大きな変革期にあたるB型肝炎。古い本では最新の治療動向を理解しきれない。そういう意味で最新の動向を知る好著である。内容としてはネットなどで入手できる初歩的な知識があれば一般でも読める程度である。薄くて一気に読めるのも嬉しい。もちろん章末には豊富な引用文献が載っており専門の方でも治療法の歴史を知るいい手引き書となろう。

HBVキャリアが各種の検査データの値を元にしていくつかのタイプに分類し、フローチャート的に治療方法を概観でき非常に理解しやすい。この本の概略を理解していれば主治医との会話でも一歩踏み込んだ理解度が得られることは間違いない。手元に置いておきたい貴重な一冊。

2003年版。値段は高くなっているが、2007年に改訂版が出ているようなので、間違って買ってしまわないように注意が必要。
