この『風が吹くとき』は、もともとイギリスで1982年に出版された作品で、日本語訳は以前別の出版社で出ていましたが、今回翻訳をし直してあらたに出版することになりました。出版当時から、漫画のコマ割りの手法を使ってシリアスな問題を描いた、絵本の常識をくつがえす作品として、大きな評判を呼んだ作品です。それから15年以上たった今、ソ連は崩壊し、米ソ2大国が国際政治を大きく左右していた時代は去って、世界の情勢はもっと複雑になってきているように思えます。しかし、最近のインドやパキスタンの核実験で明らかになったように、核兵器をパワーゲームの切り札とみなす風潮はまだまだ盛んです。そういう意味では、核戦争の脅威は去ったわけではありません。まだ、核は使用しなくても、ジムやヒルダのようなふつうの人たちが犠牲になる戦争は、世界各地で多発しています。レイモンド・ブリッグズがこの絵本で描こうとした状況は、表向きの形は変わっても、今でも存在しているのです。この絵本が、親子いっしょに、もう一度核の問題、そして戦争の問題を考えるきっかけになってくれれば幸いです。

　暗いイメージの題材を、こんな風に表現できることに驚きました。そして行間を読むことで、深く濃厚なテーマの意味を改めて知る作品といえます。
　「世界の終わりに、あなたは何をしたいですか？」なんてことをよく聞いたりしますが、本当の終わりなんてのは心の準備もできないような、突然に襲いくるものだと思うんです。

　作品では、無邪気で楽観的な主人公が、政府のマニュアルを信じて防衛するのですが、それがまた哀れみを誘います。核の投下から終焉までの描写が実に詳細で、周辺環境や人体への影響がリアルに伝わってきます。

　溢れかえる情報の中から、本当に信用できる情報を見つけ自己防衛に活かすことがどれほど難しいか、そして我々一般人にとって投下元の人間が神憑り的な存在であるかのような錯覚及び無力感があります。
　すべてを知り怖れながら終わりを迎えるのか、もしくは何も知らず無邪気に終わりを迎えるのか。あなたは、どちらが幸せだと思いますか？

田舎でのんびり暮らしている夫婦が何も分からないまま、「終わり」へと向かっていく・・・・
静かな静かな絵本です。
そしてとても残酷です。

日本人の多くが修学旅行などで、「原爆資料館」を訪れたり、「はだしのゲン」を読んだりしたことがあると思います。
この絵本は、それらの直接的な悲惨さはやや薄めです。

しかしそれが逆にいろいろと想像させられてしまうかもしれません。

このタイトルのアニメーションを見たことがあります。その時は凄く衝撃的でした。本で読んでみたのですが、コママンガとして非常に良く出来ていました
核兵器というものは、どういうものなのかなかなか理解できない部分があると思いますが、それが実際に使われたらどういう事が起きるのか
郊外に住む高齢の夫婦が、核攻撃のニュースを見て、家庭で出来る対策を講じて・・・しかし、そこに待つものは。
ぜひ一度読んでみてください
内容的にはマンガですし、小学生高学年からでも十分読めると思います
今でも核兵器の脅威は減るどころか、核保有国は増える一方。
怖い世の中です
世の中はもう一度、核が実際に使用されないと、その怖さに気付かないのでしょうか
