柳広司は実に器用で、職人技のミステリを披露してくれる作家です。
そしてまた、『贋作『坊ちゃん』殺人事件』など、名作に材を採って側面から光を当て、違う話に仕立て上げてしまう名人でもあります。
『山月記』から生まれた本書『虎と月』も、原作を損なわず、且つ、魅力的な謎解きに仕上がっています。

李朝が遺した有名な詩、ほんの一文字が…。
言葉のマジック、文字の魔法、唖然呆然のあと「すげーっ！」と叫んでしまうこと請け合い。

ミステリーYA!叢書だけど、ある程度上の年齢層の方が、この驚きに感動できるように思います。つか、私だったら中高校生でコレ読んで感動できたか自信がないなー。

日本人のほぼ全員が、高校２年生で勉強する、中島敦「山月記」の世界に取材したミステリー（パロディ？）。

「山月記」のはじめの、李徴の人となりの説明に、


数年の後、貧窮に堪えず、妻子の衣食のために遂に節を屈して、再び東へ赴き、一地方官吏の職を奉ずることになった。

とありますが、その、李徴の子ども（少年）が、「父はなぜ虎になったのか」、この真相をつきとめる旅に出ます。その少年が知った真相とは。

「山月記」を学んだ方、すなわち日本人のほぼ全員が楽しめます。国民の必読書。

　中島敦の忘れがたい名品『山月記』をひとひねりして、虎になった父親の謎を解き明かそうと旅に出た十四歳の少年を主人公にした物語。『山月記』を何度も何度も読み返した著者ならでは。原点の雰囲気、味わいを生かしつつ、そこに一点、鮮やかな着想を加えて、これは実に面白いミステリ小説であるなあと魅了されました。

　なぜ、少年の父、李徴（りちょう）は虎と化したのか。この謎がするするっと解ける終盤の件りは、さながら魔法でも見るように秀逸。ああっ！　と、思わず目が点、開いた口がふさがらない、素晴らしい場面でしたねぇ。この謎解きの妙。快哉を叫んで、部屋中ぐるぐると駆け回りたくなったくらいです。

　ちょっと気が早いけれど、来年の干支は「寅（虎）」。リドル・ストーリーの逸品「女か虎か」とともに、ミステリ・ファンは、本書もぜひ！
