玄田 有史
1964年島根県生まれ。東京大学経済学部を卒業し、現在は東京大学社会科学研究所助教授。専攻は労働経済学。高齢化社会が進み、中高年の就業確保が声高に論じられるなか、若年層の失業の実態に迫って雇用の本質的な問題を提起した『仕事のなかの曖昧な不安』(中央公論新社)により、サントリー学芸賞等を受賞。また、『ニート』(曲沼美恵氏との共著、幻冬舎)では、就職にも進学にも希望を失った無業の若者の姿を詳細なデータ分析と丹念な取材により描いて、働くこと、ひいては、ひとが生きていくことで必ず出会う不安や不確実さに向き合うために必要なことを真摯な筆致で考察し、深く大きな共感を呼びつづけている(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

この本、子供向けということもあり、ルビがふってありますが、
内容は、仕事に悩む大人のほうが、わかる、わかる。と読めます。
特に、『仕事なんて失敗ばっか』ってのは、俺も目からウロコで、
他の本で、いくらでも言われてきたことだけど、やっと実感に
なったような感じがします。そう言えるのも、著者が、研究者で、
ニートの研究をしてきて、実際、いろんな人に会った背景があるから。
成功者の書く、説教まがいの、『いまどきの若者は・・・』ではないし、かといって、安易なアドバイスなどもしない。
いっしょに考えてあげるけど、考えるのは君だよ。という姿勢にも共感します。

~タイトルにある「１４歳」にぜんぜん限定されない内容。就職活動真っ最中のひとも、職場で中堅になっているひとも、リストラされてしまったひとも、「働くこと」に先行き不透明さやうまくいかなさを抱えているなら、この本から、自分の困っている状況を冷静に見つめて、次にどうしたらいいかを考える姿勢というものを教えられます。なにより、働くことに迷い~~や挫折があったりするのも、まんざら悪いことではないな……と思わされるところが、この本のいちばんの魅力でしょう。玄田の兄貴が応援してくれるかぎり、オレは働くことに絶望はしないぜ！！~

~とくにクリエイティブなほうではない、いわゆる誰にでもできるパートつとめの私。でもそれなりになやみは多いんです。玄田さんのことは存じ上げなくて、学者さんか…と思いつつ、かわいい表紙につられて、少しだけ期待しつつ購入しました。読んでみて目からぼろぼろ落ちる鱗！！！　職種や働き方、身分を問わない、「仕事」の本質がわかりやすく書かれていて~~、そんなにいろいろ無理しないでも続けていれば大丈夫なんだ、と励まされた感じがします。専門学校生で、就職を控えた娘にも、ぜひ読ませようと思っています。~
