美しい日本語で描かれた、美しい日本の話。
政治的なドロドロした描写もあるけれど、それを上回るほどの小夜や野火の清らかさ。
このお話には、強くて正しい人間は出てきません。誰もが弱さ、はかなさを持ちながら、それでも一生懸命生きている。自分の大切な人のために、命を投げ出すことをもいとわない純真さに心を打たれました。
ラストも、あぁ、よかったなぁ、とほっとして読み終われた。余韻にひたれる物語。

守り人シリーズが好きでこの本を手にしたのですが、期待を裏切ることなくいいお話でした。守り人シリーズとはまた違った雰囲気で、日本の美しさが目に浮かんでくるような、心に春の暖かさや清々しさがしみこんでくるようでした。

呪者に縛られた霊狐の野火、おばあさんに育てられた小夜、人里はなれた森の中の屋敷に閉じ込められていた小春丸。この三者がまるで運命かのように権力者の争いに巻き込まれていく。そんなふうにお話が進んでいきますが、野火や小夜のまっすぐな愛情に胸をうたれるでしょう。

終わり方も後味が悪い、というような事はないので、気軽に手にしてはいかがでしょうか。
装丁は和紙のような手触りのいい紙質で出来ていて、大事に扱いたくなるような仕上がりでいいですよ。カバーを外すと表紙とはまたちょっと違った絵が書いてあったりして、長い間大事にもっていたい気にさせてくれる一冊です。

　この本、上橋さんのお馴染み「守り人」シリーズとは違い、「恋」がテーマの一つとなった物語です。そのためか一つ一つの場面が非常に美しく感じられます。読み終わったときの感動は、言葉にできないものがあります。
