人は守る者が出来た時、泣けなくなると聞いたことがありあます。
この物語の中での重要な要素である「死」によって
姉がどうしようもなく悲しみに暮れている時、
弟の守るべき者は姉であり、
姉を守るという強い使命からどんなにどんなに悲しくても、
強く賢く、優しく懸命です。

この本を読んで、何でか分からないけれど、
後半部分でどわっと涙が出てきました。
悲しいからとか切ないからとか、
そういった単純な理由ではなく、
物語全体の雰囲気に泣かされた感じです。

本当に本当におすすめの本です。

何で知ったのか失念してしまいましたが、この作者を形容するのによく用いられる「物語」という言葉に引かれて手に取りました。小学校高学年次を回想する高校生の女の子を語り手とするこの物語は、自分を取り巻いていた人々のほんの数年前の出来事を、壊れてしまった大切な茶器をつなぎ合わせてその微妙に変わってしまった輪郭をいとおしむように丁寧に語っていきます。ラストの「指の音」とのやり取りは、人の一生に比してあまりに短い犬の一生が思いやられ、「行儀よく同じ歩調で歩いていく時間なんてないのだなあ」という思いと相まって、グッときました。長い時間をかけてゆっくりと、読む自分の変化をどこかで見つめながら何度でも読み直したい「物語」です。

ぶらんこのり、を読み終えてすぐに行ったスキー、
ナイトスキーのリフトに乗ると、
夜のぶらんこで過ごしていた「弟」の気持ちがわかる気がした。
この世からちょっとはずれてしまいそうな不安定な空中で
ヒット曲の音が遠ざかる、スピーカーとスピーカーの間の、
その感覚が不思議でもう一度と、なんどもなんどもリフトに乗った。
読んでから、なんどもなんども思い出す。魔法の本。
