　わがままでいばりんぼの王さまのキャラクターとかわいいイラストは、強く印象に残ります。
　真に子どもに愛されるナンセンス・ワールド。話の展開はまったく予測不可能ですが、先が気になってしかたありません。
　みょうに教訓めいていたり、説教じみていないところも、子どもに愛される理由なのでしょう。
　最高におもしろい童話シリーズのひとつとして、独特なポジションを築きあげています。

5.0 out of 5 stars 寺村さん・・・惜しい方が亡くなりましたね。, 2008/6/23
小学3年生のとき、友達の家ではじめて読んだ「王さま」シリーズ。
あまりの面白さに、
（なんでもっと小さいときによまなかったんだろう）
と、こども心に悔やまれた記憶があります。
でも、このシリーズを本当に楽しめるのは、
むしろ小学生くらいからかもしれません。

私の中では「王さま」といえばこのイラスト、というイメージが強く、
ほかの方の挿絵にはどうもなじめなかったのですが、
実はうちのこどもたちもそう思っていたそうです。
寺村さんと和歌山さんは、やっぱり最強の組み合わせなのかもしれません。

表題作のほか、ふたつの作品が収録されていますが
甲乙つけがたい素晴らしいファンタジーが味わえます。

文字の大きさやページの区切り方など、構成もよく考えられていて、
絵本から童話へ世界を広げ始めた年頃のこどもたちに
ぜひよみきかせてあげたい一冊です。
