まったくもって子供向けの本ですが、
単純な線と点だけなのにもかかわらず味のある絵と、
工藤さんの暖かい文章に癒されます。
子供の頃は何度も読んだものでした。

哲学とビールが大好きなくじらと
体操やその訓練が大好きないるかという
二匹によって綴られるストーリーは
今読んでも心に響くものがあります。
子供に是非読んでほしいですが、
大人の方にも読んでみてほしいです。

児童書、なんてカテゴリーに閉じこめたくない、そんな一冊です。
（「児童書」には得てしてそんな逸品が多いものですが）

ちがうところを「ちがう」と認め、さらに「いいよね」と純粋に羨ましがる、それって友情のすごく根本的な要素だよな、と気付かされます。

くじらの包容力と、いるかの素直な甘え力。
できればどっちも兼ね備えた人になりたい、でも兼ね備えちゃったら、くじらのような友人にも、いるかのような友人にも出会えないかもしれない。

心地良い「切なさ」を味わえる一冊です。

　友人が２冊買い、１冊を私に下さったのですが、これは、疲れてしまった大人のための童話だと思います。イルカとクジラの友情は、今のおかしくなってしまった社会の中で、一時のオアシスを与えてくれる事となるでしょう。最後が少し悲しいですが、これのおかげで、工藤直子さんのファンになり、いろんな本を読みました。心温まるものばかりです。
