　ロープワークに関する本は多数出版されているが、この本の優れている点は　実際に野外で読まれることを前提にして作られているということだ。表紙は水に強いビニール製で、本文で使用されている紙も丈夫そうである。サイズも約12cm×19cmと縦長コンパクトで、160ページ近くあるわりには厚さも薄い（約8mm）。出かける時に持って行ってもあまり負担にならないサイズだ。

　私の場合この手の本を読んでも結び方はなかなか覚えられないのだが、本書では「これだけは覚えておきたい結び方」としては15種のっているだけで　とても良心的（？）である。私の場合は実は15種も覚えられない（というか、いったん覚えても日常的に使わない結び方はスグ忘れてしまう）のだが、結びの現場にこの本を持って行けば、覚える必要すらない（もちろん、持ち忘れると結べなくなってしまうので、持ち忘れには特に注意している）。

　私のようにロープの結び方を覚えたいのはやまやまだけど「ちょっと...」という方に特にお薦めしたい。

ロープワークの解説書の中でこんなにわかりやすい物はありません。
薄くて携帯に便利だし、ビニールカバーも付いているのでアウトドアにも問題なく持って行けます。
わかりやすい説明なのですぐ理解できますが、頭でわかっても手が覚えないとすぐに忘れてしまいます。
だから、本書と3mmのナイロンの細引き1mはいつもバックに忍ばせています。
実際にフィールドで使う事例のポイントも解説されているので、これ一冊で十分です。

実はこの本、書店ではなく「東急ハンズ」で買ったものである。

さて、内容であるが、各分野での基本の結びかたが一通り網羅されている。アウトドアの趣味のない人にとっては、ロープワークといえば引っ越しのトラックを運転するか、学校の運動会、町内の祭りなどで櫓の類を組むときくらいだろうが、せめて最初の「第２章　これだけは覚えておきたい結び方」、これだけでも覚えておいて損はない。

コンパクトで簡潔そのものなので、電車の中で読みながら練習するのもにも最適だ。
