　メイン・タイトルだけを見ると安っぽい恋愛論のようにも思えるが，実際は著者自身によるコンピュータ上のシミュレーション結果を一般読者向けに解説した読み物であり，ゲーム理論やマルチエージェントモデルに関心を持つ者には（肩の凝らない）必読の書といえる．
　著者は今や世界的に有名になった2種類のシミュレーションの結果に基づき，反復囚人のジレンマゲームにおいて，平均的によいパフォーマンスをあげる戦略は毅然と寛容のバランスのとれた，相手に態度が分かり易い戦略であること，およびある条件の下，ひとたび上品な戦略が集団を占めたならば，いかなる戦略が一丸となってもその集団に侵入することはできないことを強調する．そして，このことからしばしば囚人のジレンマ状況に陥る現実社会に対して重要な示唆を与えている．翻訳のすばらしさもあって，本書は大変に興味深い内容のものとなっている．
　なお，本書の付録にある定理の証明はどちらかといえば，証明のラフ・スケッチに過ぎず，厳密な証明に関心のある者は訳注を参考にしつつ，本書の元となった著者自身の論文を読むことを勧める．

「協調か裏切りか」のジレンマが続く状況下での全体最適に近づく戦略をテーマにしている。導かれた戦略は『しっぺ返し』である。最適は存在せず、この戦略はタフである。「互恵主義」とも呼ばれる。私の言い方だと、意思表示をすぐ伝える「対等関係」が合っているように理解した。上下関係では、全体最適には近づかない。学校や会社の上下関係、友達や家庭の対等関係など、自分の例を考えた。

数学を基にしたゲーム理論の本ですが、人間社会の複雑な関係に、わかりやすい「勝利の公式」を提示してくれているようで、とても楽しく読めました。
実生活にあてはめて、なるほど、と理解できる箇所が多かったデス。
