色づけした世界地図で、あらゆる角度から水の問題を解き明かそうとします。
色につられ、図表・写真に引っ張られながらページをめくってしまいます。
これ一冊で水の専門家になった気分。
巻末の索引も親切です。

監訳者のあとがきにもあるが
まずはカラー刷りでコストもかかる大型本が
その内容にふさわしい、高い倫理観の許
翻訳・出版されたことを高く評価したい。

中学生にでも理解できるであろう内容だが
その内包するモンダイの裾野は広く、重い。
テロの問題も確かに国際問題ではあるが
手近な水資源を通じ、それを理解できる意味は大きい。

ちょうど柴田明夫氏の「水戦争」を読んだところだったが、こちらは新書でところどころグラフはあったのだが、なにかビジュアル的に書かれていることが理解できるツールが無いかと思い調べて出てきたのが、こちらの「水の世界地図」だった。

以前、同じシリーズの「食料の世界地図」も読んでいたので、期待通りだったが美しいカラーで割りと大き目の本で、水問題の勘所が理解できる。

やや、データが古いのは仕方ないだろう。その点考慮し、星をひとつ引かせていただいた。
