起業することが初めてであれば誰にでも不安がある。
まして独立におていの是非や功罪がつきまとうものである。
その点をきちんと整理して始めてみたいという思いつきの時点から、実現可能なまでの手順を丁寧に説いている。
そして成功例ばかりでないことを最後にきちんと釘を刺し、本書の副題にも書かれている「成功をきめる準備」であらわしている。
巻末の自己チェックシートは回答（採点）を得るために著者のコンサルティング会社へ連絡を取るようになっているが、対価が必要なのか？その点が星ひとつ減。

起業に関する本は巷にあふれる昨今だが、ほとんどが「設ける方法」か「財務諸表の読み方」「税金について」など、ハウツーもの。
この本は、それらを考える前の段階で、起業家として必ず考えておかねばならないことを明確に、しかしわかりやすく示している。
つまり、「何で起業するのか」ということ。

その分野の選定について、「自分がやりたいこと」や「内面的な必然性と外面的な整合性」など、言われれば「そうだよなあ」とわかることだが、書かれるまでは明確に認識してなかったことが書かれている。
「起業に興味あるけど、何から考えていいのかわからない」人には手ごろな入門書だと思います。

　起業に興味があったのですが、起こした後の事ばかり考えていて、準備の重要性はあまり頭にありませんでした（なにぶん初心者なので…）。

　本書は例も多く、表もあり、動機付けの段階からプラン作成までの流れが読みやすくまとまっています。『起業は「続ける」ことが出来なければ開業した意味がありません。（中略）「始めたビジネスの内容」と「そのビジネスを選んだ自分」、つまり「始める」前の準備の段階で、既に成功要因も失敗要因も芽生えていたのです。（本文より）』、それでは始める前にどう準備を進めていけば良いのか？それをいくつかのパターン別にわかりやすく説明しています。
　起業の最初の一歩を知るにはちょうど良い本ではないでしょうか。
